Ange Postecoglou has provided a team news update ahead of Sunday’s match against Aston Villa during this afternoon’s press conference at Hotspur Way.

Tottenham return to action following the international break looking to end their two-game run without a victory which has seen them lose grip at the top of the Premier League table following disappointing defeats to Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The North Londoners are still without the services of Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, who both picked up injuries against Chelsea which will see them sidelined into the New Year, while Ivan Perisic, Richarlison and Ryan Sessegnon remain unavailable.

Spurs team news vs Aston Villa

Destiny Udogie is available for selection after serving his one-match suspension, but Ange Postecoglou must wait a further two fixtures before Cristian Romero can be recalled after his straight red card for violent conduct.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the clash against Unai Emery’s side.

Postecoglou revealed that Ashley Phillips will be out for ‘a little while’ after picking up an injury during the international break, while Pape Matar Sarr also returned with a problem that needs to be assessed ahead of the weekend. On one positive note, Destiny Udogie is now back in contention.

He said: “We’ve got a couple of issues. Young Ash Phillips is out for a little while which is disappointing for him. We will have a look at Pape Sarr because he’s got a bit of an issue as well, so we will see how he is over the next 24 to 48 hours.

“Everyone else has come back [from international duty] ok.”

When asked about Udogie, he added: “Destiny is fine. Obviously, he is available but obviously to lose Biss [Bissouma] for this game, but we will get Destiny back and he has had a good couple of weeks.”

Tottenham face a tough trip to the Etihad to take on champions Manchester City following the Villa fixture and certainly will not want to head north on the prospect of a potential four-game losing streak.
