Tim Sherwood aimed another jibe at Pedro Porro ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Chelsea on Monday.

Sherwood was infamously quite critical of Porro soon after the right-back joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon back in January.

The former Spurs interim boss blasted the 24-year-old following his debut at Leicester City, stating at the time that the Spaniard is “so bad it’s unbelievable” (talkSPORT).

Porro has since silenced his critics and has had a fine start to the season, having adapted impressively to the demands of the inverted full-back role under Ange Postecoglou.

Tim Sherwood piles more criticism onto Pedro Porro

However, Sherwood has seemingly not changed his mind about the Spain international, labelling him a ‘poor defender’ ahead of the London derby, and suggesting that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could exploit his weaknesses.

The pundit told Premier League Productions (06/11/23 at 5:45 pm): “The weakness is the fullbacks. If Udogie isn’t fit, I think he has done brilliantly. Pedro Porro is a poor defender. But he is a very good going forward. If I was Chelsea, then I would try to exploit that.”

The right-back once again proved his one-on-one defensive prowess against the Blues, delivering a battling second-half performance as the home side made the visitors sweat despite being down to nine men.

Spurs Web Opinion

There were certainly some question marks about Porro’s defensive ability coming into the season but the former Sporting Lisbon man has demonstrated that he is quite reliable defensively.

While there are still things that the 23-year-old can improve on, I am surprised that Sherwood has described him as a ‘poor defender’.
