Fernando Llorente believes that Real Madrid made a mistake by letting Harry Kane join Bayern Munich in the summer, insisting that his former Tottenham teammate would have been ‘perfect’ for Los Blancos.

Prior to his switch to Bayern in the summer, Kane was mooted as a target for the likes of Real Madrid (Football Espana), Paris Saint-Germain (Telegraph) and Manchester United (Mirror).

However, it was the Bundesliga giants who secured the England captain’s services and even though they paid what was a club-record fee for the striker, it already looks like a bargain, with the 29-year-old having scored 22 goals and provided seven assists in 17 matches for the German side far (Transfermarkt).

Would Kane have been perfect for Real Madrid?

Llorente knows well of Kane’s qualities, having shared a dressing room with him at Tottenham for two years.

In fact, it was due to the England captain’s presence that the Spaniard did not get much game time with the Lilywhites, although he did play an important role in Tottenham’s march to the Champions League final in 2019 when Kane was out injured.

When asked if Real Madrid should have sighed his former Spurs teammate, Llorente has now told AS: “He would have been ideal. He was the perfect signing for Real Madrid. He’s a phenomenon.

“Maybe Madrid thought they [Tottenham] were asking for too much money because of his age, but I had no doubts about his performance because I have seen him up close and I know what he is capable of. He would have been the perfect striker for Madrid.”

It is clear that Florentino Perez remains keen on eventually taking Kylian Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu, which is why he seemingly passed up on Kane this summer.

Real Madrid may come to regret their decision to allow the former Tottenham to join Bayern if Thomas Tuchel’s men manage to win the Champions League.
