Jamie Donley made his Premier League debut at the weekend, coming on as a substitute in the draw against Manchester City. Now, the youngster has revealed how he feels after the milestone moment in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.

Tottenham have a lot of exciting young talents in their ranks, with the likes of Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine out on loan gaining first team experience currently.

One of the most promising teenagers is still at the club with Jamie Donley earning praise throughout his time with the Spurs youth squads over the last year.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye of Ange Postecoglou in recent weeks, with the Spurs boss hinting Donley would get his chance in the first team if he continued to work hard (Football.London).

That chance did come, and perhaps sooner than expected. With injuries hitting the Spurs squad, Donley was named on the bench for the game against Manchester City last weekend, and came on for his debut with just a few minutes to spare with the North Londoners rescuing a point following Dejan Kulusevski‘s late header.

Jamie Donley wants more action after Spurs debut

Speaking after the game (via Tottenham Hotspur’s Twitter account), Donley discussed his emotions and ambitions upon making his debut for the club.

He said: “I’m obviously very happy to make my debut, but the result is the most important thing. I think we played really well second half, so it’s a good draw here.

“I’ve been through the whole academy so I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been on my journey. It’s been a ride, but obviously this is the ultimate goal and hopefully I can carry on from here.”

On the step up from youth football to the senior side, Donley added: “It’s what we aim towards. Playing well in the Under-18s and the Under-21s, then this is obviously the next step. Hopefully I can carry on getting more minutes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am delighted for Donley to have made his debut, and I really hope he sticks around the first team now and gets more experience this season. We didn’t get much chance to see what he can do against City, but hopefully, he will get a more substantial opportunity soon.

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pedro Porro has opened up on the exit of Harry Kane earlier this summer, admitting that it was a ‘painful’ affair for everyone involved.

Kane joined Bayern Munich from Spurs in the summer in a protracted transfer saga that dominated the headlines in the summer transfer window. The deal was finalised for a reported fee in excess of €100 million ($110m) bringing the curtain down on a 19-year-old career for the forward in N17 (ESPN).

He departed Spurs as the club’s all-time top goalscorer and was just 47 shy of eclipsing Alan Shearer’s Premier League record, the academy graduate played 430 times for Spurs, scoring 278 goals and providing 64 assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Whilst everyone widely expected him to succeed at Bayern Munich, not even Kane would have envisioned the start he has had to life in Germany. In just 18 matches for Bayern this season, he has already scored 22 goals and provided seven assists (Transfermarkt).

Porro admits he wishes Kane had stayed at Spurs

Speaking to the Telegraph, Porro opened up on the exit of Harry Kane, admitting that it was a very painful saga in the summer.

He said: “Kane’s exit was painful for everyone because he was the heart and soul of the club. I would have liked to have enjoyed Kane more because we didn’t spend much time together. He is a special striker, used to scoring goals everywhere. He has not found it difficult to adapt to Bayern. He is undoubtedly one of the best in the world.”

“However, I think we at Tottenham have been able to overcome that absence quickly. Maybe there are more authoritative voices now. Son, for example, has taken the baton. Since Kane left, he’s stepped up, he’s taken responsibility and you can feel that inside and outside the dressing room. People usually underestimate him, maybe because he was always in the background, but he’s an out-and-out player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whilst Kane’s exit a few days before the new season left a bitter taste in the mouth, all the parties involved have moved on pretty well. While Kane has had a great start to life in Germany, we have had a great start to life under Ange Postecoglou and have moved on quickly.

It’s safe to say that Tottenham Hotspur fans have enjoyed Guglielmo Vicario’s start to life in North London, and the keeper has revealed the feeling is very much mutual.

After witnessing Hugo Lloris take a sharp downturn in form last season, it was obvious Tottenham needed a new number-one goalkeeper this year. After a relatively short search, Guglielmo Vicario was selected as the man to replace the former Spurs skipper.

The Italian has quickly proven that Tottenham made the right choice, with Vicario being one of the star performers under Ange Postecoglou so far. Even in the recent defeats, the 27-year-old has been outstanding, particularly in the chaotic game against Chelsea at the start of November.

It’s hard to imagine life without Vicario now, and the fact that Postecoglou has added the keeper to his leadership group should tell you everything you need to know about the way Vicario has settled in and carried himself since arriving in N17.

Vicario thanks his teammates for a warm welcome

Now, the man himself has spoken on his early experiences at the club. In a video shared on the club’s Twitter account, Vicario said: “I have to be thankful to all the Tottenham environment, to all my teammates, to my coach, and to everyone here who is close to Spurs.

“My integration was great, since day one. The most important thing is to feel good in the dressing room, with your teammates, so I have to be thankful to them because they make it easy for me. Since day one, it was easy, like we knew each other for a long time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have been very impressed by how quickly Vicario has settled in and established himself as one of the most competent keepers in the league. He seems to have great authority about him and clearly has the respect of his peers, which is really important for a player in his position.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that many experts he has spoken to have doubts over whether Lloyd Kelly has the size to be a top Premier League centre-back.

Among the various centre-backs that Tottenham have been linked with over the past couple of months, no name has appeared more often than Kelly’s.

Many different outlets have backed the Lilywhites to reignite their interest in the Cherries star after failing to get a deal for him over the line in the dying stages of the summer transfer window (GiveMeSport).

While the 25-year-old is also thought to be on the radars of several clubs in the Premier League and Serie A, it has been asserted over recent weeks that Tottenham remain at the front of the queue for the player’s signature (TEAMtalk).

However, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola confirmed on the south coast club’s official website on Friday that Kelly is expected to be out of action for several weeks after picking up a hamstring injury, and it remains to be seen if that affects Spurs’ pursuit of the player.

Is Lloyd Kelly tall enough to play in Spurs back line?

Gold has now pointed to another potential concern about the defender, revealing that many see him as being better suited to the left-back role, owing to his lack of height.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I’m interested to see if they go back for Lloyd Kelly or not, but he’s featured quite regularly for Bournemouth.

“I’ve had some people I’ve spoken to have a few concerns about his height and if he will remain a centre-back for the long-term, he plays as a left-back sometimes as well as a centre-back.”

Spurs Web Opinion

At 178 centimetres, Kelly is certainly not the biggest of centre-backs going around but he is only 3 cms shorter than Ben Davies. The fact that Tottenham have explored a deal for the 25-year-old means that Postecoglou does not think that would be too much of an issue.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has confirmed that rumoured Tottenham target Lloyd Kelly now faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

It has been well documented that Spurs are prioritising signing a central defender in January and Kelly is reported to be one of the names at the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist (GiveMeSport).

The 25-year-old has a little over six months left on his contract with the Cherries (Transefermarkt) and a whole host of clubs are thus said to be watching his situation closely, including the likes of Liverpool (Football Insider), Arsenal (Tuttosport), Juventus (Fabrizio Romano) and AC Milan (TMW).

However, it was asserted by TEAMtalk a couple of weeks ago that despite the growing interest in Kelly’s services, Tottenham remain his most likely destination.

Lloyd Kelly pics up serious injury amid Spurs interest

However, Spurs’ pursuit of the centre-back might now be jeopardised after it emerged that the defender is now expected to face a lengthy spell on the treatment table.

Iraola did not say exactly how long Kelly is going to be out for, simply stating that the Englishman will be out of action for ‘some weeks’.

The Spaniard told Bournemouth’s official website: “It’s really bad news for Lloyd Kelly. He has a muscle injury that will keep him out for some weeks.

“He has been performing really well since the beginning. At centre-back, he’s done very well, on the side he’s done very well and is a very good defender.

“Obviously, you never want your best players injured, but this is happening to all the teams and we have to be ready to be solid without him and we have very good alternatives.

“The timing isn’t good with a lot of games coming up, key games for us, but we hope that nothing else happens in training and we’ll have the same squad available to us from the weekend.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This injury might end Tottenham’s interest in Kelly for January as the North London side would not want to pay a transfer fee for the centre-back without full clarity on his fitness, especially considering that he would be available on a free transfer next summer.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Everton are willing to sell Tottenham target Ben Godfrey in the January transfer window.

Godfrey was seen by many as one of the best young English defenders during his time at Norwich City but his career has stagnated over the last couple of years.

The centre-back has fallen down Sean Dyche’s pecking order this season, having made just two appearances so far this season.

90 min reported at the start of November that the 25-year-old has emerged as a target for Spurs in January, with the player said to be keen to leave Goodison Park in search of regular game time.

The outlet claimed that the Lilywhites are ‘long-term admirers’ of Godfrey and have been regularly checking in on him.  It was revealed that the England international is also on the radars of Newcastle, Bournemouth, Burnley and Crystal Palace ahead of January.

Everton are willing to sell Ben Godfrey in January

Gold has now said that the Toffees would be willing to cash in on the centre-back, who they signed from Carrow Road three and a half years ago.

The journalist explains that Godfrey is not in Dyche’s plans, which is why the Goodison Park hierarchy are now ready to listen to offers for the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

Some will scoff at the idea of Spurs signing a player who is not even good enough to get into Everton’s starting eleven.

However, just because Godfrey does not fit into Dyche’s set-up, does not mean that he will not be a good fit for Postecoglou’s system, with the Englishman being quick, aggressive and good on the ball, qualities that the Australian wants in his centre-backs.

The Standard have revealed that Barcelona are not willing to give up on their pursuit of Giovani Lo Celso, with Xavi keen on bringing the Argentine to Camp Nou.

Lo Celso, who has missed much of the season due to injury, made his first Premier League start in more than two years against Aston Villa and the midfielder gave an excellent account of himself. He then took things to the next level with a huge goal against Man City at the Etihad.

With James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur out with long-term injuries, the 27-year-old could have a pivotal role to play at Spurs over the coming weeks.

Some Spanish outlets have reported over the last couple of weeks that while Barca have set their sights on Lo Celso after Gavi sustained a serious injury, Tottenham may not be willing to let the player leave (Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness).

It was explained that this was because of the injuries that Ange Postecoglou’s men are dealing with in the middle of the park as well as the fact that both Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr would be unavailable during AFCON.

Barca have not given up of signing Giovani Lo Celso

However, The Standard have now said that Barca are not willing to admit defeat in their pursuit of Lo Celso just yet.

They say that the Catalan club tried to sign the former Real Betis man last summer as well but Tottenham rejected their loan offer and demanded a sizable fee, with the La Liga giants could not pay.

The report adds that Xavi continues to push the Barca hierarchy to get Lo Celso through the door after learning that Gavi could be out for the rest of the season.

In fact, the outlet asserts that the Camp Nou camp hierarchy have now made the Tottenham man their ‘primary transfer target’ for January.

The Standard add that while Lo Celso is ‘flattered’ by Barca’s interest, he will not push for a move away from Spurs, especially now that he is getting opportunities.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Tottenham letting Lo Celso go in January even if Barca are willing to pay £20m-£25m. In the absence of Maddison, I expect the Argentine to step up and make himself a mainstay in the Spurs starting eleven over the next few weeks.

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Union Saint-Gilloise have put a price tag of €15m (£12.8m) on Koki Machida after Tottenham expressed an interest in the centre-back.

Machida has emerged as one of the most consistent defenders in the Belgian top flight over the last 12 months and his performances have seemingly not gone unnoticed at Spurs, who are on the lookout for reinforcements in central defence.

It was reported by 90 min last week that Tottenham are considering making a move for the Japan international in January in light of the 26-year-old’s impressive development.

The outlet claimed that the Spurs hierarchy are of the belief that the former Kashima Antlers star has the physical attributes to play in Ange Postecoglou’s aggressive backline.

Tottenham will have to pay £12.8 for Koki Machida

Het Nieuwsblad have now backed up Tottenham’s interest in Machida, explaining that the North London club see the player as the ideal understudy to Micky van de Ven at left centre-back.

However, they say that Union SG do not wish to lose the defender mid-season, given how key he is to their side and Spurs will thus have to ‘dig quite deep’ to secure his services.

It is alleged that the Premier League side will have to bid €15m (£12.8m) to convince the Belgian club to let Machida go.

Spurs Web Opinion

While £13m is a humungous fee for a club like Union SG, it is quite a modest one for Spurs. I get the feeling that it is Postecoglou who might be pushing Machida’s case at Tottenham as the Australian would have seen the centre-back closely during his time in the J-League.

TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that despite Rodrigo Bentancur’s recent injury, Juventus are still of the belief that they can persuade Tottenham to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

A few days ago, we relayed a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, which claimed that Juventus were set to abandon their hopes of signing Hojbjerg after it emerged that Bentancur would be out of action until February.

The outlet claimed that a deal for the Dane was already proving complicated for the Serie A giants but after Ange Postecoglou lost another of his midfielders to injury, it had now become next to impossible.

The same information was also backed up by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold on Thursday, with the journalist stating that Spurs are unlikely to consider offers for either Hojbjerg or Oliver Skipp, given Bentancur’s injury and the fact that Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr will be unavailable during AFCON.

Juve still have hope of signing Hojbjerg from Spurs

However, these claims have now been contradicted by TMW, who report that Hojbjerg ‘can still leave’ Tottenham despite the Uruguayan’s injury.

They say that the Bianconeri ‘continue to work’ on convincing Daniel Levy to part ways with the former Southampton man during the January transfer window.

The publication adds that Juve remain ‘attentive to developments’ but it is explained that Spurs would not entertain the idea of loaning out Hojbjerg, with only a permanent sale being on the cards.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham may consider offers for Hojbjerg if they bring another midfielder through the door in the first week or two of the January transfer window. It would make no sense for Spurs to loan the Dane out without an obligation to buy.

Enzo Fernandez has labelled Cristian Romero as ‘crazy’ and explained why the centre-back celebrated in Kylian Mbappe’s face during last year’s World Cup final.

Romero and Fernandez were part of the Argentina side that created history in Qatar, with the proud South American footballing nation getting their hands on the World Cup after a 36-year wait.

The Tottenham man did not have the best of starts to the tournament but he stepped up to the plate during the knockout stages, playing a key role in Argentina’s win.

The 25-year-old was one of the best players on the pitch on the night of the final as he delivered a battling display, with the Albiceleste eventually winning on penalty shootouts after the game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Cristian Romero is Tottenham’s crazy soldier

Romero celebrated in Mbappe’s face when Lionel Messi gave Argentina the lead in extra-time, and Fernandez has now explained that the defender had done so because the PSG star was taunting his opponents.

The Chelsea midfielder told Star+ (as relayed by Sport Witness): “There were plays that we celebrated, like some divided ones, and he (Mbappe) made signs to us as if he was going to kill us. He told us that they were going to win the final.

“He got into it with me, I don’t know why. And well, I have a soldier who defends me. Cuti is crazy, ha ha ha. When we scored the goal, he started celebrating it in his face.”

Romero is certainly a player you would want to have on your side, with the Argentine loving a battle. However,  he has to find a way to channel his aggression better without losing his competitive edge as he has crossed the line one too many times in a Tottenham shirt.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Manchester United are the latest club to enter the race for rumoured Tottenham target, Ivan Toney.

Even though Toney has not kicked a ball since May, owing to a ban for breaching the FA’s betting rules, he continues to be one of the hottest commodities on the market as top-class number nines are hard to come by.

Not only has the Brentford star proven his ability to find the back of the net consistently in the Premier League, but he is also a well-rounded centre-forward, capable of linking play and holding up the ball.

That is why there is thought to be widespread interest in the 27-year-old’s services ahead of January, with various reports stating over the last month that Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are all eyeing the player (Daily Express).

In fact, The Sun even claimed last week that even though Tottenham have played down suggestions that they would move for Toney, Chelsea are ‘convinced’ that the Lilywhites will vie for the England international’s signature.

Manchester United enter the race for Ivan Toney

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, the London trio have now been joined in the race for Toney by Man Utd.

It is explained that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is closing in on buying a 25 per cent stake in the club, is prioritising signing homegrown talent as he aims to get the Red Devils back to the summit of the Premier League.

One of the players on the Manchester club’s radar is said to be the prolific Brentford star, with the Old Trafford hierarchy said to be ‘monitoring him closely’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Brentford will be hoping that a bidding war ensues for Toney in January and they might want a fee well in excess of £80m. It would not make much sense for Spurs to spend a club-record fee on a number nine, given the other areas of the squad that need to be addressed.

Martin Lipton revealed that Brentford striker Ivan Toney was desperate to join Tottenham Hotspur back when Manchester United were confident of signing Harry Kane.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Brentford striker for quite some time now. The Sun claimed recently that Chelsea were confident the North London club would make a move for the striker in January. The Blues also want to sign the 27-year-old.

The report added that Arsenal could compete with Chelsea and Tottenham for the player’s signature. Who comes out on top in this all-London battle remains to be seen.

Toney was handed a ban in relation to betting allegations and is expected to return in January. The 27-year-old is an integral part of how Brentford play but has been linked with an exit from the Bees for quite some time now.

Last season, the Brentford striker was on fire, scoring 21 goals and providing five assists in 35 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side (Transfermarkt). Toney has a contract that expires in 2025.

Toney was desperate to join Spurs in the past

Speaking on The Spurs Show Podcast, Martin Lipton has claimed Ivan Toney was desperate to join Spurs 18 months ago when the Red Devils wanted to sign Harry Kane.

“I know for a fact that 18 months ago, when United thought they were going to get Kane, Toney was desperate to go to Spurs, and his agent was pushing really hard”

Spurs Web Opinion

We still haven’t replaced Harry Kane who left us for Bayern Munich in the summer. While Spurs have performed well so far, a natural number nine is needed to be sustainable in the long run.

Ivan Toney perfectly fits the profile Ange Postecoglou looks for in his striker. That said, getting into a bidding war with Chelsea and Arsenal really doesn’t make sense. I feel we might be outpriced in the race for the Brentford man.

According to Football Insider, sources have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have accelerated their plans to sign a new midfielder in January following Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury.

Making his first start in nine months, Bentancur suffered an injury against Aston Villa after finding himself on the receiving end of a Matty Cash challenge. He hobbled off the pitch in the 30th minute.

Journalist Sami Mokbel on X revealed that the Uruguayan midfielder is expected to miss out on at least two-and-a-half months of action. Bentancur had just returned from an ACL injury.

Pape Matar Sarr also missed out on the last two games with an injury. Whilst Yves Bissouma has returned from suspension, it leaves Ange Postecoglou short of options to choose from in midfield.

In their 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, Ange Postecoglou decided to deploy Giovani Lo Celso in a deeper midfield role. The Argentine had a good game and was handed a second straight start against Man City, scoring in both of those matches.

Spurs accelerate plans to sign a midfielder in January

The report has claimed that Tottenham could accelerate their plans to sign a midfielder in January, in the aftermath of the injury to Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan is expected to be out until at least February.

It must also be remembered that Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma will leave for the AFCON early next year. Thus, signing a new midfielder becomes a necessity.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s a shame that Bentancur is injured yet again. The poor guy just can’t catch a break. When fit, he is one of the best midfielders at Postecoglou’s disposal.

Taking into picture the AFCON situation, Spurs must look to sign a midfielder in January but they should also look to sign the right player. Signing someone for the sake of it doesn’t make sense. Let’s also hope Bentancur can recover from injury soon and help us in the business end of the season.

According to Football Insider, sources have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will join Brentford in the race for 20-year-old PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko.

Spurs have been hit by quite an injury crisis of late, especially in the wide positions. Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon are all set to be out for extended periods.

This, coupled with injuries and suspensions to key players in other areas of the field has led to Tottenham losing three games on the bounce, followed by a draw away to Man City.

Come January, Spurs might be looking to bolster their roster with a new winger and this is where Bakayoko comes in. Sky Sports revealed a couple of days ago that Tottenham were interested in the PSV Eindhoven wide-man but Brentford were also circling.

With four goals and 12 assists in 23 games this season, the Belgian youngster has made quite the impression (Transfermarkt). Predominantly a right winger who loves to cut inside onto his left foot, Bakayoko can also do a decent job on the other side.

Spurs have been following Bakayoko for quite some time now. Back in August, the Sun’s Alan Nixon revealed on his Patreon that Tottenham had sent scouts to the Ibrox to watch the 20-year-old in action in the Champions League qualifier against Rangers.

Bakayoko finds himself on Tottenham’s shortlist

Along with Samuel Iling-Junior of Juventus, Bakayoko finds himself on Tottenham’s January shortlist, as they look to reinforce their depth in the attacking areas.

The pacy winger has already made his senior Belgium debut. He has since gone on to represent his nation nine times and has scored one goal. Despite being just 20, he is certainly not short of experience.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Ange Postecoglou favours Samuel Iling-Junior more than Bakayoko at the moment but things could change when the clubs engage in negotiations. The former also helps us fulfil the homegrown quota requirements.

Bakayoko is an interesting option and can be considered should a move for Iling-Junior prove to be infeasible. The 20-year-old has immense potential but we would be better off going for the Juventus man at the moment.

Harry Kane has opened up on his decision to leave Tottenham Hotspur and join Bayern Munich in the summer, calling it a mad experience.

Spurs’s all-time record goalscorer leaving the club in the summer was a bitter pill to swallow. After all, Kane had been at the North London club for 19 long years and nobody wanted to see the day of his exit finally arrive.

Kane played 430 times for Spurs, scoring 278 goals and providing 64 assists (Transfermarkt). When his transfer to Bayern Munich was announced, the Englishman was just 47 goals away from eclipsing Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record.

Since joining the German giants, Kane has set the Bundesliga alight with his goalscoring performances. In just 18 matches for Bayern this season, he has scored 22 goals and provided seven assists (Transfermarkt)

Spurs have had an impressive start to the season as well. They were unbeaten in the first 10 Premier League games before losing three on the bounce. They find themselves just six points off the top of the table after that draw with Man City at the weekend.

Kane opens up on ‘mad’ Bayern Munich transfer

In an interview with FourFourTwo, Harry Kane has opened up on his decision to move to Bayern Munich from Spurs in the summer.

He said: “It was a bit of a mad experience, to be honest. I didn’t really know what to expect… I was stepping out of my comfort zone.

“Last season, all I focused on was Spurs and trying to help the club finish as high as possible in the table. Once the season finished, I spoke to Spurs and explained that I felt it was time to move on and push myself as far as possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even the most ardent of Spurs fans would have not been optimistic about this season following Kane’s departure. Ange Postecoglou has really managed to turn the situation around though with his astute management.

Despite the three losses, we find ourselves in a great position this season. A win against Manchester City this weekend will give us a lot of confidence and let’s hope we can get the better of Pep Guardiola’s team.

Former Belgian international Gert Verheyen is not surprised to hear that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Union Saint-Gilloise centre-back Koki Machida.

A flood of centre-backs from the J-League have impressed in Europe over the last couple of years, with Machida being one of those.

The 26-year-old, who first arrived as a relative unknown from Kashima Antlers on loan two years ago, has now evolved into one of the best centre-backs in the Belgian top flight.

It was reported by 90 min at the start of this week that the Japan international’s displays had caught the attention of Spurs, who are on the lookout for reinforcements in defence.

The outlet added that the belief at the North London club is that the SG Union star has the physical attributes to play in Ange Postecoglou’s aggressive backline and the fact that he is left-footed makes him an especially attractive option for the Lilywhites.

The same publication added that Machida had also previously been of interest to Brighton.

It is no surprise that Spurs are looking at Machida

Verheyen is not surprised that the defender is now attracting interest from Premier League heavyweights.

When asked about the speculation linking Machida with a move to Tottenham, the pundit simply told the Extra Time show on VRT: “That is normal. Not so much that it’s Tottenham, but that there’s interest. That is quite logical.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is nothing concrete to suggest at the moment that Machida is near the top of Tottenham’s wishlist but Postecoglou would know the 26-year-old well from his time in Japan.

Based on the sheer number of central defenders we have been linked with over recent weeks, it seems like the club’s recruitment team and Postecoglou have not settled on a shortlist of targets just yet.

A new report has shed some light on the economic benefits of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to the borough of London, with close to £1bn generated thanks to the venue.

The development of the state-of-the-art facility has put Tottenham on the map in the world of football, with the club now possessing one of the most attractive and lucrative venues in the sport.

Since it opened its doors officially in 2019, the 62,850-seater stadium has proven to be a home worthy of a great football club. Now, Ange Postecoglous team needs to achieve the kind of on-field success to match it.

From hosting music concerts and other sporting events, to being a part of the UK and Ireland’s bid to host 2028, it’s no secret that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a big deal.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’s true value revealed

Now, thanks to a report shared by Football.London, featuring details directly from Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, we know just how much of a big deal the stadium truly is.

With a focus on the 2021/22 season – the first in which Spurs had use of the stadium for the full season – it’s suggested the stadium contributes “around £900m of gross output to London’s economy.”

To put this into perspective there was £344m GVA (gross value added) to the boroughs of Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest alone. This greatly surpasses the “£120m per annum generated by the old White Hart Lane stadium.”

The report claims Tottenham Hotspur hope to “nearly double” that GVA by 2026/27, with a target contribution of £585m for the “tri-borough economy.”

On the stadium’s positive impact, Levy said: “Delivering tangible benefits to those living on our doorstep has always been a driving factor since we initially undertook the stadium development project – four years on from the stadium’s opening, this report clearly shows the difference it is making to people’s lives and the economic prosperity it is bringing to our community.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Well, that’s a lot of money, isn’t it? No matter what you say about Levy and the board, the stadium is one thing they got absolutely right.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Henri Lansbury has revealed that he did not get along with Johan Lange and described Tottenham’s decision to appoint him as ‘crazy’.

Lange took over as Tottenham’s technical director last month, almost six months after Fabio Paratici resigned from his role as the club’s managing director of football.

The Dane had served previously as the technical director at FC Copenhagen from 2014 to 2020 and was appointed as Villa’s sporting director three years ago.

However, his role at the Midlands club was changed to global sports director after Monchi’s arrival at Villa Park in the summer.

Some reports have revealed that the 44-year-old was recommended very highly to the Tottenham hierarchy by the club’s assistant coach, Mile Jedinak, who worked with the Dane during his time at Villa (Football Insider).

The Standard reported last week that one of the main reasons Spurs appointed Lange was because of his expertise in working with data to identify transfer targets.

Lansbury does not seem to be a fan of Johan Lange

Lansbury has now spoken about his run-in with the Tottenham technical director at the Midlands Club, admitting that he was surprised by the appointment.

The 33-year-old, who hung up his boots in the summer, said on Filthy Fellas: “I went to Villa after I done well (at Forest). Then, probably my last year, they said ‘we aren’t putting you in the squad’, because I kept getting injured, So, I was like ‘fair enough’. It is what is.

“But when they start to say you can’t be in the first-team changing room. You can’t train with the first team. Go with U21s or U23s. You are like ‘I ain’t a d____head to the team’. I try to lift it if anything.

“When they were doing that, so they were like ‘we are trying to buy you out of your contract’. They offer you a certain amount. I am like ‘If you want me to go, there is my contract, pay my money and I will bounce’.

“Then every day I am going in. Training with the U23s. You can’t get me down. I am saying ‘good morning, how are you? How is the family?’ All staff. I will say hello to everyone. But there was this one guy (Lange), apparently, he was calling the shots.”

Lansbury is then told ‘apparently, he is at Tottenham now, Johan Lange’ to which he responded: “Yeah, crazy how they have taken him, in my personal opinion. Good luck to Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think we should be putting too much weight on the words of a former disgruntled Villa employee as his view of Lange is not going to be favourable, given the way things ended for him at the Midlands club. The next few transfer windows will be the acid test of the 44-year-old and his methods.

The Times reporter Tom Allnutt has revealed that Bryan Gil has been likened to David Silva and Andreas Iniesta in Spain, with many in the country convinced that the Tottenham man has the talent to evolve into a world-class player.

Gil has struggled to get opportunities since his switch to Tottenham back in 2021 and the winger would justifiably feel hard done by.

Even though the Spaniard delivered a couple of impressive displays back in January of this year, with Tottenham going through an injury crisis at the time, he was shipped out on loan to Sevilla by Antonio Conte.

The 22-year-old was handed his first start of the season by Ange Postecoglou against Aston Villa and he gave an excellent account of himself, handling the ball well and putting in some dangerous crosses from the left. He then started once more against Man City at the Etihad on Sunday.

Some pundits have said that they were surprised by the winger’s display and urged Postecoglou to give the youngster a sustained run in the team (Football Insider).

Tottenham’s Bryan Gil has a lot of fans back in Spain

Allnutt has now revealed that many people across Spanish football were in awe of Gil’s talent when he was snapped up by Tottenham two and a half years ago.

The journalist told The Tottenham Way Podcast: “I was speaking to someone about this who knew Gil in Spain and he says it’s tough for scouts in the Premier League because you look at Spanish talents with technical ability, and you compare him to David Silva for example, he went on loan to Eibar which is kind of the Burnley equivalent in Spain, he played brilliantly there and everyone decided he had all the talent and Bryan Gil did the same.

“So the Premier League scouts were saying this is the David Silva lineage, he has the ability, combine it with the Eibar factor we have the next Andres Iniesta on our hands, that’s why Tottenham rolled the dice, they thought he was a young player who had everything, let’s go early and it was earlier than David Silva, but you can’t blame them for doing that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Gil has never been disappointed when opportunities have come his way and with the injuries that Spurs are now dealing with, the next few weeks could be the ideal time for the 22-year-old to step up and prove his quality in a Tottenham shirt.

90 min have claimed that Crystal Palace could offer Marc Guehi a new contract to keep him off the clutches of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.

Over the last month or so, various outlets have reported that Guehi is one of the centre-backs on top of Tottenham’s wishlist ahead of the January transfer window (GiveMeSport).

However, a couple of days ago, TEAMtalk offered a blow to Spurs’ chances of signing the 23-year-old by revealing that Palace have no intention of letting the player leave before next summer.

The outlet added that the centre-back himself was keen to see out the season at Selhurst Park so that he gives himself the best chance of getting into England’s startling eleven for next summer’s European Championship.

Potential new contract offer for Marc Guehi

90 min have also backed up the claim about both Guehi and Palace having no intention of green-lighting a January transfer.

They say that this comes as a blow to Tottenham, Newcastle United and Manchester United, who are all tracking the defender closely.

In fact, the publication goes on to add that the Eagles are plotting to hand the England international a new contract with a significant pay rise.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how high Guehi’s stock is at the moment, a move to a bigger club looks inevitable for the 23-year-old next summer, particularly if he excels at the Euros. I would be surprised if the centre-back signs a new contract at Palace which does not contain a release clause.
