Jamie Donley made his Premier League debut at the weekend, coming on as a substitute in the draw against Manchester City. Now, the youngster has revealed how he feels after the milestone moment in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.

Tottenham have a lot of exciting young talents in their ranks, with the likes of Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine out on loan gaining first team experience currently.

One of the most promising teenagers is still at the club with Jamie Donley earning praise throughout his time with the Spurs youth squads over the last year.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye of Ange Postecoglou in recent weeks, with the Spurs boss hinting Donley would get his chance in the first team if he continued to work hard (Football.London).

That chance did come, and perhaps sooner than expected. With injuries hitting the Spurs squad, Donley was named on the bench for the game against Manchester City last weekend, and came on for his debut with just a few minutes to spare with the North Londoners rescuing a point following Dejan Kulusevski‘s late header.

Jamie Donley wants more action after Spurs debut

Speaking after the game (via Tottenham Hotspur’s Twitter account), Donley discussed his emotions and ambitions upon making his debut for the club.

He said: “I’m obviously very happy to make my debut, but the result is the most important thing. I think we played really well second half, so it’s a good draw here.

“I’ve been through the whole academy so I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been on my journey. It’s been a ride, but obviously this is the ultimate goal and hopefully I can carry on from here.”

On the step up from youth football to the senior side, Donley added: “It’s what we aim towards. Playing well in the Under-18s and the Under-21s, then this is obviously the next step. Hopefully I can carry on getting more minutes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am delighted for Donley to have made his debut, and I really hope he sticks around the first team now and gets more experience this season. We didn’t get much chance to see what he can do against City, but hopefully, he will get a more substantial opportunity soon.

It’s safe to say that Tottenham Hotspur fans have enjoyed Guglielmo Vicario’s start to life in North London, and the keeper has revealed the feeling is very much mutual.

After witnessing Hugo Lloris take a sharp downturn in form last season, it was obvious Tottenham needed a new number-one goalkeeper this year. After a relatively short search, Guglielmo Vicario was selected as the man to replace the former Spurs skipper.

The Italian has quickly proven that Tottenham made the right choice, with Vicario being one of the star performers under Ange Postecoglou so far. Even in the recent defeats, the 27-year-old has been outstanding, particularly in the chaotic game against Chelsea at the start of November.

It’s hard to imagine life without Vicario now, and the fact that Postecoglou has added the keeper to his leadership group should tell you everything you need to know about the way Vicario has settled in and carried himself since arriving in N17.

Vicario thanks his teammates for a warm welcome

Now, the man himself has spoken on his early experiences at the club. In a video shared on the club’s Twitter account, Vicario said: “I have to be thankful to all the Tottenham environment, to all my teammates, to my coach, and to everyone here who is close to Spurs.

“My integration was great, since day one. The most important thing is to feel good in the dressing room, with your teammates, so I have to be thankful to them because they make it easy for me. Since day one, it was easy, like we knew each other for a long time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have been very impressed by how quickly Vicario has settled in and established himself as one of the most competent keepers in the league. He seems to have great authority about him and clearly has the respect of his peers, which is really important for a player in his position.

A new report has shed some light on the economic benefits of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to the borough of London, with close to £1bn generated thanks to the venue.

The development of the state-of-the-art facility has put Tottenham on the map in the world of football, with the club now possessing one of the most attractive and lucrative venues in the sport.

Since it opened its doors officially in 2019, the 62,850-seater stadium has proven to be a home worthy of a great football club. Now, Ange Postecoglous team needs to achieve the kind of on-field success to match it.

From hosting music concerts and other sporting events, to being a part of the UK and Ireland’s bid to host 2028, it’s no secret that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a big deal.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’s true value revealed

Now, thanks to a report shared by Football.London, featuring details directly from Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, we know just how much of a big deal the stadium truly is.

With a focus on the 2021/22 season – the first in which Spurs had use of the stadium for the full season – it’s suggested the stadium contributes “around £900m of gross output to London’s economy.”

To put this into perspective there was £344m GVA (gross value added) to the boroughs of Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest alone. This greatly surpasses the “£120m per annum generated by the old White Hart Lane stadium.”

The report claims Tottenham Hotspur hope to “nearly double” that GVA by 2026/27, with a target contribution of £585m for the “tri-borough economy.”

On the stadium’s positive impact, Levy said: “Delivering tangible benefits to those living on our doorstep has always been a driving factor since we initially undertook the stadium development project – four years on from the stadium’s opening, this report clearly shows the difference it is making to people’s lives and the economic prosperity it is bringing to our community.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Well, that’s a lot of money, isn’t it? No matter what you say about Levy and the board, the stadium is one thing they got absolutely right.

Former Argentina and Inter Milan striker, Diego Milito, has spoken about how he almost joined Tottenham Hotspur back in 2008 before he opted to rejoin Italian side Genoa instead.

Tottenham may not have had much success in recent years, but having top attacking talent has never been an issue for the North London club.

From Harry Kane, to Gareth Bale, and Jermain Defoe, goals haven’t been hard to come by at Spurs. There was almost a different name to add to that list, though, had Diego Milito gone ahead with his proposed move to N17.

During his playing days, Milito scored 250 career goals in Italy, Spain, and his native Argentina (Transfermarkt). He even won the Champions League with Inter Milan, but it was Genoa where his heart truly lied, it seems.

Why did Diego Milito reject Spurs?

In a new interview (relayed by L’Interista), Milito explained just how close he was to joining Spurs, and why he opted to return to Genoa instead.

He said: “That was an incredible scene, who knows what would have happened if I hadn’t gone to Genoa. Those weeks were very hard because I almost had a deal with Tottenham, who I like for Ardiles and [Ricky] Villa. Yet, I don’t know why, I wasn’t totally happy and satisfied.

“One day before the market closed, Preziosi called me and asked me: ‘would you like to go back to Genoa?’ According to my wife, my face was transformed.

“I felt I had to return to Genoa to finish a path. I’ve always made choices with my heart, we did the whole negotiation quickly and I told the president of Zaragoza that I just wanted to return to the Grifone.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Fair play, sometimes a move just feels right, and you have to go with your instincts. It’s a shame, though, as Milito was a very talented player and I’d have loved to see what he could do in England.

Galatasaray’s club doctor has defended Tanguy Ndombele amid fan criticisms, and insists the Frenchman is in roughly the same condition as he was during his peak physical performance at Tottenham Hotspur.

Over the last few years, Tanguy Ndombele has come under intense scrutiny for his performances and his fitness, and rightly so. The Spurs man has never lived up to expectations in North London, and has often appeared apathetic to his worsening situation.

It was hoped he may find a new lease of life under Ange Postecoglou over the summer, but the Australian is thought to have been disappointed with the 26-year-old’s attitude. Hence, Ndombele was moved on yet again, this time for a loan spell with Galatasaray.

Things haven’t gone to plan over in Turkey, either. It was claimed recently, that Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk was losing patience with Ndombele (Fotospor). However, a ‘special meeting’ between the pair recently led to a positive outcome, it’s thought (Milliyet).

Ndombele is in normal condition right now

Ndombele vacated the field after 60 minutes of action this week in the Champions League against Manchester United, with Galatasaray fans seemingly whistling him off the field.

There have been concerns over the player’s fitness and weight since he arrived in Turkey, but Galatasaray’s club doctor insists everything is normal for Ndombele.

He told Ajansspor: “Yes, he is a little overweight, but we will reduce it. There is no exaggeration. He trained at Tottenham in this form. We have his reports from Tottenham and Napoli. This is how he weighed when he was at his fittest.”

Apparently, Ndombele is currently at 16% body fat, compared to an 11% average for professional footballers. But, he is in no worse condition than he ordinarily is at Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

All I can say on Ndombele’s situation is that I’m glad he is breaking into the starting lineup at Galatasaray, but only because I want him to secure a move away from Spurs as soon as possible. I’ve given up all hope of him ever working out for us.

Despite ongoing speculation linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Jota, the latest report on the matter suggests Ange Postecoglou still isn’t entirely convinced his former player would be the right man for Spurs.

Tottenham may still have attacking talent like Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, and Brennan Johnson at their disposal, but injuries to a number of players has left the squad worryingly thin as we head into the winter period.

With James Maddison, Ivan Perisic, and Manor Solomon all out until next year, and Richarlison just beginning to recover from his own surgery, Ange Postecoglou needs reinforcements for his squad in the January transfer window.

Former Celtic winger, Jota, has been linked with a move to Europe due to the fact he is ineligible to play for Al-Ittihad in the Saudi league (TEAMtalk). Spurs are among the clubs looking at Jota, with Postecoglou potentially keen to reunite with the Portuguese attacker (Football Insider).

Jota may not be right for Postecoglou’s Spurs

However, a new report from The Sun suggests Postecoglou is not letting his heart rule his head, and is still “mulling over” a potential move for the 24-year-old.

Apparently, Postecoglou is unsure whether Jota would “be a good fit for the Premier League” and the Australian still hasn’t “made up his mind” as to whether he will try and sign his former Celtic star in January.

The report adds that Jota himself is “keen to end” his time in Saudi Arabia, and wants to “join old boss” Postecoglou at Spurs. If Postecoglou does decide against the move, it’s said Wolves are also circling.

Spurs Web Opinion

Just because Jota worked out well for Postecoglou in Scotland, that doesn’t mean he will be right for the Spurs system or the English game. Postecoglou has to think very carefully about this move, and not let sentiment get in the way.

After bagging the equaliser in the dying moments of the game against Manchester City today, Dejan Kulusevski has spoken of his pride at the way his Tottenham Hotspur side played, but insisted they have to match that level all season.

With three consecutive defeats to their name, Tottenham would probably have wanted to face any other team than Manchester City this weekend, especially at the Etihad. But, Ange Postecoglou‘s side found a way to match the Premier League champions.

Spurs even led the game, for roughly 90 seconds, after Heung-min Son finished off a swift counter-attack at one end, before knocking a Manchester City free kick into his own net moments later.

City went into half-time ahead thanks to a Phil Foden goal, but the Lilywhites came out fighting in the second half and pegged Pep Guardiola’s side back with 20 minutes left through a wonderful Giovani Lo Celso effort.

Ten minutes later, Jack Grealish put City ahead once more, and seemed to have quashed Tottenham’s efforts once and for all. But, with the clock hitting 90 minutes, Brennan Johnson floated the ball into the box and Dejan Kulusevski jumped highest and put the ball in the back of the net to snatch a point.

Kulusevski is proud of Spurs’ fight

Speaking to Sky Sports (3/12/23 at 6:30pm) after the game, Kulusevski commented on his game-changing effort, the way the team played, and how close he feels Spurs came to actually winning the game.

He said: “It was an unbelievable second half from us and I’m proud of the guys and really we have to play like this all season… It was too bad that we conceded that goal because if we kept playing like that we would have won the game but we have to learn.

“There are a lot of things to learn but if we can just learn to get better mentally then we will be on top.”

Kulusevski also spoke to BBC Match of the Day about the character of the team and Postecoglou’s impact, adding: “I think the team itself has a strong belief but first half was not good enough. The coach was very angry at half-time. He said ‘guys stop thinking, just play’ and we came out better.

“The football is there, the coach is there and we can be at the top in the future.”

Spurs Web Opinion

What a performance from Kulusevski today, and he popped up when it really mattered again, too. He is really making that central role his own, and it will be interesting to see how Postecoglou navigates that once players like Maddison are back from injury.

Speaking after an enthralling 3-3 draw against Manchester City today, Spurs captain Heung-min Son heaped praise on his teammates for the way they kept battling until the very end to snatch a point away from home.

With injuries and suspensions depleting Ange Postecoglou‘s squad, it was no surprise that many pundits and fans had written off Spurs for this visit to the Etihad.

Postecolgou once again proved his doubters wrong and stuck to the game plan, and his players put in a mightily spirited performance to come from behind twice and take a point off the Premier League champions.

Heung-min Son gave Spurs an early lead, before scoring an own goal moments later. Phil Foden and Jack Grealish put City ahead twice, but the Lilywhites never gave up, and found equalisers through Giovani Lo Celso and Dejan Kulusevski to share the spoils and put a stop to Tottenham’s losing streak.

Son is delighted with Tottenham’s resilience

Kulusevski’s goal came at the end of the regulation 90 minutes, and Son has commended the efforts of his side for getting back into the game.

He told Sky Sports (3/12/23 at 6:30 pm): “The lads haven’t given up until the last whistle and brilliant work from Brennan [Johnson], unbelievable cross inside the box and obviously Dejan [Kulusevski] doesn’t score headers usually but I’m very proud of him and he’s massive.

“I think this point will bring us so much for the season. I think it’s a huge point for the team and players’ confidence.”

On that confidence and belief, Son added: “That’s why we love football. That’s what I told the lads. Obviously, Man City are a huge, huge team and one of the best teams in the world but that’s why we love football, it happens sometimes. We kept believing until 90 minutes so I’m very very proud of the team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was a valiant effort from Spurs, and the point was very well deserved after that stirring second-half display. I would have loved to have seen what we could do with a full-strength squad, but we will have to wait for the return fixture for that.

As Tottenham Hotspur battled to a spirited 3-3 draw against Manchester City today, the performance of Giovani Lo Celso was a highlight, with the midfielder even registering an impressive 100% passing accuracy rate throughout the game.

Ironically, Giovani Lo Celso is a player who would arguably have been nowhere near the starting lineup today, had it not been for injuries to the likes of James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pape Sarr.

The Argentinian returned to North London this summer after two years away in Spain on loan at Villarreal, and seemingly did enough to retain his place in Ange Postecoglou‘s squad for the season.

Lo Celso struggled for minutes in the early stages of the campaign, but has taken his chances of late and appears to be carving out quite the comeback at Spurs.

Giovani Lo Celso achieves 100% passing accuracy

Following on from a fine goal against Aston Villa last weekend, the 27-year-old scored again this weekend to help Spurs to a share of the spoils at the Etihad. But, judging by the statistics from WhoScored, Lo Celso’s contribution goes deeper than just scoring a goal.

Lo Celso registered a rating of 7.06 out of 10, which was only bettered by three of his teammates today. He achieved a 100% passing accuracy ratio from his 40 passes in the game, and managed 52 touches of the ball before being substituted in the 79th minute.

In addition to scoring a goal, Lo Celso also made one interception, won five ground duels, completed one cross, and one accurate long through ball.

Spurs Web Opinion

What a redemption story this is proving to be! I’ve been really impressed with Lo Celso since he came into the side these last couple of games, and the fact he is contributing goals is a real bonus. It looks like he will be the man we rely on in the middle of the park until January at least, and based on recent evidence, we will be just fine.

On the back of defeats to Chelsea, Wolves, and Aston Villa, the last thing Tottenham needed was a trip to the home of the Premier League champions. That challenge was made even more daunting by the injury crisis affecting Ange Postecoglou‘s squad of late.

With key players like James Maddison and Micky van de Ven out injured until the New Year, and Cristian Romero still serving a suspension, Postecoglou has been forced to call upon the likes of Emerson Royal, Ben Davies, and Giovani Lo Celso to plug the gaps.

Today, the players who were available did a fine job in matching Pep Guardiola’s men right until the very end. Despite City’s dominance, Spurs battled hard and grabbed a late equaliser through Dejan Kulusevski at the end of regulation time to take a point away from the Etihad.

Son is happy with one of his goals against City

Heung-min Son had got the game off to an entertaining start, first finishing off a sweeping counter-attack to put Spurs ahead early on, before prodding the ball into his own net after a City free-kick just moments later.

Despite scoring at both ends of the pitch, Spurs captain Heung-min Son was not about to let an own goal tarnish the fact he and his side took a valuable point away from Pep Guardiola’s side today.

When asked about his own goal, he told Sky Sports (3/12/23 at 6:30 pm): “That’s football, sometimes it happens. I tried to do the best thing for the team and couldn’t react but still good experience to score against Man City.”

Spurs Web Opinion

When a dangerous ball comes into the box, there is always the risk of a leg poking the ball in the wrong direction, and it’s just a shame Sonny was on the end of that one today. His performance was quality overall, though, and no one is about to hold that own goal against him, I’m sure.

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be the far happier supporters coming away from the Etihad tonight, as Ange Postecoglou’s men snatched a point in an entertaining 3-3 draw. The manager has been speaking after the game about the way his side hung on, and the team he wants Spurs to be.

Ange Postecoglou went into the game against Manchester City today having to deal with a growing injury list, and his top centre-back, Cristian Romero, still out due to a suspension. Still, speaking before the game, the Australian insisted he would not change his ways.

He is true to his word, too, as his Tottenham side well and truly went for it against the Premier League champions, despite the odds being against them from the start.

Spurs took the lead early on thanks to a Heung-min Son goal, but the skipper then turned the ball into his own net moments later. City went in at half-time in the lead, after Phil Foden rounded off a lovely move by Pep Guardiola’s side.

But, in the second half, Tottenham nullified the threat of City and got themselves back in the game through a Giovani Lo Celso goal. Ten minutes later, City had the lead once more through Jack Grealish, but Spurs did not stop battling, and got their reward when Dejan Kulusevski prodded the ball home on the stroke of 90 minutes.

Postecoglou knows Spurs have more to give

In his post match interview with Sky Sports (3/12/23 at 6:30pm), Postecoglou discussed his approach to the game and how important it was not to fold and change the system.

He said: “We weren’t anywhere near the the level of our standards and City will do that to you, they are unbelievable. They put pressure on you and haven’t lost too many games here at the Etihad. Second half we had more belief in ourselves and the team we want to be and we clawed our way back into the game.”

On the character his players showed, he added: “It has been there all year, the last few results have hidden that a little but we are at the bare bones a little bit. I have asked players to play in unfamiliar positions but we have still played some decent football.

“I think the character has been there all year but we certainly needed it today. City are an unbelievable team and there are times where you just have to hang on like we did today.”

Despite a tricky first half, Postecoglou believes his side got what they deserved though, saying: “It was an entertaining game, plenty in it. We were lucky to be in it by half-time, City could have blown us away in that period, a bit similar to what happened to us against Villa last week.

“We hung in there, second half were a lot better, a lot more control and a lot more belief in the team. We got our reward for that which is great for the lads.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One thing’s for sure, watching Spurs is never dull these days. A brilliant game for the neutral, and ultimately, a decent result for an injury-plagued Spurs side. Ange and the players have to be commended for just going for it, which is exactly the kind of bravery and commitment we want as fans.

Despite the odds being against them, Tottenham Hotspur came away from the Etihad with a hard-earned point after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester City. Ange Postecoglou has now explained what he told his players at half-time.

Spurs took the lead early on through a finely worked Heung-min Son goal, but the Tottenham skipper awkwardly knocked the ball into his own net less than two minutes later. City then took the lead through a wonderful team goal, finished off by Phil Foden, to hold the advantage at halftime.

However, it was the Lilywhites who came out fighting in the second half, levelling through a Giovani Lo Celso effort with 20 minutes to go. All that hard work was almost undone when Yves Bissouma gave the ball away on the edge of his own box, and Jack Grealish slotted home what appeared to be the winner.

Right on the stroke of 90 minutes, however, Spurs got themselves back in the game once more, after Brennan Johnson floated an inviting ball into the box for Dejan Kulusevski to poke home and spoil City’s party.

Postecoglou wants players to believe in themselves

Speaking to Sky Sports (3/12/23 at 6:30 pm) after the game, Ange Postecoglou revealed the instructions he gave his players at half-time, and insisted he wasn’t angry at the team at all.

He said: “There would probably only be a few words I can say. Joking aside it was more trying to get the players to believe in themselves rather than anger at them. I’m always mindful that from where I am on the touchline it seems simple but out there against an unbelievable team it is difficult.

“It was a case of whatever happens I will take responsibility, particularly if it doesn’t go well. But just go out there and believe in yourselves.

“How you react to the tough periods factor in how you are measured in the course of the season. We stuck to our guns and our beliefs, we aren’t out of the tough period yet, we’re going to be thin going into January but how you react is important for what we are trying to build.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whatever Ange said at half-time, it did the trick. The Spurs players came out and made life really difficult for City, which is evident in the fact the home side failed to register a shot for around 35 minutes in the second half. The spirit and belief in this Tottenham side right now is unlike anything I’ve seen at the club in a very, very long time.

Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester City this weekend in the Premier League, and former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp does not fancy their chances against the champions.

The impressive start Spurs made to the 2023/24 campaign has come to a grinding halt, largely due to injuries and suspensions to Ange Postecoglou‘s squad.

A ten-game unbeaten run at the start of the season had Spurs on top of the league, but three straight defeats now have the Lilywhites down to fifth in the table after the loss against Aston Villa last weekend.

With key players such as James Maddison and Micky van de Ven ruled out, and Cristian Romero suspended, the situation does not appear to be about to improve any time soon – at least, not with a visit to Manchester City on the horizon.

Redknapp predicts Man City win over Spurs

City are currently second in the Premier League, three points ahead of Postecoglou’s men. And, Harry Redknapp cannot see his former side getting anything from the Etihad this weekend.

He told BetVictor: “Here we go, the big one! Pep was probably annoyed to not get the win against Liverpool last week, they let that one slip. That was a great comeback from them during the week against Leipzig though, they probably feel unbeatable at home.

“That’s three defeats in a row for Spurs, Ange has to be concerned. The injuries keep mounting up for his side as well, it’s a really difficult spell for them. They’ve still been creating chances though and with the likes of Son and Kulusevski still in the side, they’ll always be a threat.

“I can see Spurs scoring but I can only see a City win. Doku looks like such a threat and with him on one side, Foden on the other, City will be such a hard side to stop.”

Prediction: Man City 3-1 Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

Unfortunately, I just cannot see us winning this one. City are a tough side to play at the best of times, never mind when half the squad are out injured. I think it will be fairly comfortable for City this one, I’ll go for a 2-0 home win.

Tottenham Hotspur fans were likely relishing the prospect of seeing Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur pairing up in the Spurs midfield under Ange Postecoglou. Turns out the manager was excited about that, too, but those plans have been ruined now.

The early season form of Yves Bissouma suggested Spurs were finally seeing the player they thought they had signed from Brighton, with the Malian dominating the middle of the park alongside Pape Matar Sarr.

Ange Postecoglou was clearly able to get a tune out of a player who struggled under Antonio Conte’s management. So, the prospect of adding the hugely talented Rodrigo Bentancur into that equation was tantalising.

Bentancur was out of action for eight months with an ACL injury sustained in February, but managed to return to fitness a little sooner than expected. Sadly, like two ships in the night, Bissouma and Bentancur have barely had a chance to combine.

Postecoglou wants Bissouma and Bentancur together

Despite sharing the field for parts of the defeats against Chelsea and Wolves, Bissouma was suspended for the Villa game last weekend, and now Bentancur is injured until February. Now, Spurs fans will have to wonder what could have been, at least for a while.

When asked about the disappointing situation preventing him from putting his two midfielders together, Postecoglou told the press (via Football.London): “It would have been lovely to see Biss and Rodrigo in there together. I had all these plans… That’s just me thinking out loud. (laughs)”

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot wait to see what Postecoglou does with these two. Bissouma holding up play and winning back the ball and then letting Bentancur roam forward will be a treat to watch. Roll on February when Bentancur is back, and let’s just hope he’s able to get back to his top form quickly.

Former Spurs defender turned pundit, Alan Hutton, has praised Guglielmo Vicario, but claimed the club need to sign a new goalkeeper who can challenge him for the number one spot.

One of the top priorities in the summer was for Tottenham to sign a new keeper to replace Hugo Lloris, who had suffered a drastic downturn in form last season.

The man chosen to fill Lloris’ gloves was Guglielmo Vicario, and the Italian has proven himself a worthy successor to the former club captain.

Vicario has delivered match-winning saves on multiple occasions this season, and looks to have been a shrewd acquisition for the North London club.

Nevertheless, the fact that Fraser Forster and Brandon Austin are the only competition for Vicario has been cited as a potential pitfall by Hutton, who likes the idea of Spurs signing Southampton stopper, Gavin Bazunu (as previously reported by Football Insider).

LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 19: Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur celebrate during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 19, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by Sebastian Frej/MB Media/Getty Images)

Spurs need competition for Vicario

Hutton told Football Insider: “You absolutely need to sign someone now to challenge Vicario. But you see the problems that have happened at Arsenal with people constantly talking about [Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya]. The pressure is on them to not make mistakes, otherwise they’re out.

“It’ll be an interesting one. I think Vicario is the number one as he’s done really well since he’s come in. He’s made some big saves in big moments and he’s really grown within the team. Bazunu would be good if he does come in, but he won’t be number one. Is he there to push Vicario? Probably.”

Spurs Web Opinion

To be fair, Hutton is right. Any great goalkeeper needs a number two who can push him to even greater levels, and we don’t have that right now. Signing a new keeper isn’t a priority for January, but definitely something to look at in the summer.

According to various reports in Italy, Juventus are prepared to sell Samuel Iling-Junior in the January transfer window for around €15-20m (£12.9-17.3m), with Premier League clubs ready to swoop.

Iling-Junior moved from Chelsea’s youth set-up to the Italian giants back in 2020 but has struggled for game time of late and is keen to move on to rectify this (Il Bianconero).

Tottenham, of course, are in the market for new players in January to add further squad depth to ease their injury problems, and a wide attacker is thought to be on the shopping list for Ange Postecoglou.

A recent report from Football Insider claimed Spurs were ready to ‘accelerate’ their pursuit of the England Under-21 international ahead of the January transfer window opening. It’s also believed the North London club were scouting Iling-Junior in the recent international break (CalcioMercato).

Will Spurs sign Samuel Iling-Junior?

Now, the youngster is covered in a number of Italian reports of late, with suggestions over where his future might lie predominantly leading back to Tottenham.

CalcioMercato claim Spurs “like” Iling-Junior, and it is thought Juventus have essentially placed the player on their transfer list ahead of the winter window.

Meanwhile, the latest from Tutto Juve suggests Juventus are pretty keen to sell Iling-Junior as they look to bring in “fresh money” to sign new players.

And finally, CalcioMercato touch on the value of the player, with a fee between €15-20m cited. The outlet claims Premier League clubs are willing, too.

If you’re curious, you can find out everything you need to know about the man himself, with our Samuel Iling-Junior bio.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m not totally convinced on this one. Samuel Iling-Junior is a young, talented player, but I just don’t think he’s the solution to our needs. We need someone a little more experienced – still young, but with a bit more pedigree in the game.

According to a new report, Tottenham Hotspur may end Japhet Tanganga’s loan spell at Augsburg in January, as the player is still not being considered for the starting lineup at the Bundesliga club despite regaining his fitness of late.

A product of the Tottenham academy, Japhet Tanganga rose through the ranks and made something of a breakthrough under former manager, Jose Mourinho.

However, his career has stalled since then, and the young defender found himself on the peripheries of Antonio Conte’s squad last season.

Clearly, Ange Postecoglou saw no real use for Tanganga this year, either, and the decision was made to send him out on loan to German side, Augsburg for the year.

A frustrating start to his time in Germany saw Tanganga out injured for an extended period of time. He is back fit now, though, but was still left out of the Augsburg squad at the weekend.

Spurs hold the key to Tanganga loan deal

Now, a report from Kicker has suggested Spurs may look to conclude that arrangement early, as part of the deal allows the North London club to terminate the loan during the season.

The problem is, Augsburg have switched from playing five at the back, to four. That means that, with six centre-halves in their squad, they have a surplus in that position.

Tanganga is thought to be training well, but “hasn’t been an option” for the Bundesliga outfit as of yet. It’s not “quite possible” that Spurs will “reconsider” and bring Tanganga back to London.

Whether that is to arrange a new loan move, or to keep him for themselves, remains to be seen. Injury to Micky van de Ven, and doubts over the future of Eric Dier, could pave a path for Tanganga to return to the Spurs first team.

Spurs Web Opinion

There’s no point having a player out on loan if they’re not going to play football. Tanganga may as well be on our bench rather than doing nothing in Germany. We need every player we can get right now!

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on KRC Genk midfielder, Bilal El Khannouss, and could sign the midfielder for as little as €18m (£15.5m), but they could face competition from Liverpool.

Despite building a strong squad over the summer, Ange Postecoglou‘s job of revitalising the Tottenham set-up has only just begun really.

Recent injury issues have hit Spurs severely, leaving the depth of the squad massively exposed. Suffice it to say, the club will be looking for reinforcements in the January transfer window and beyond.

One area that Postecoglou appeared keen to work on in the summer was central midfield, with players such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg apparently not fitting the Australian’s system. No signings were made in the summer, however, and Hojbjerg has remained at the club.

With injuries to the likes of Pape Sarr, James Maddison, and Rodrigo Bentancur, Spurs will be even more keen to add a new midfielder to their ranks at some point, and the answer to their needs may well be in Belgium.

Spurs and Liverpool battle for Moroccan star

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who claim Spurs are keen on KRC Genk sensation, Bilal El Khannouss, a player who has been attracting attention from the Premier League of late.

Apparently, Tottenham have already been making “manoeuvres” to sign the 19-year-old, but the “latest discovery” from the Belgian league is seen as a “valued” member of the Genk squad.

The report claims Liverpool are also in pursuit, and that the “starting price” for the player would be around €18m (£15.5m). El Khannouss signed a new contract in February, which runs until 2027.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is a lot of unearthed talent in Belgium, it seems, after we were also known to be looking at Gift Orban in the summer. The only issue is whether these young players have what it takes to make the jump to the Premier League.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur will reject any loan proposals for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the upcoming January transfer window, despite continued speculation linking the player with a move away from the club.

Hojbjerg has found himself taking on more of a peripheral role in the Spurs squad under Ange Postecoglou this season, which is a far cry from his status as a first-team regular under previous managers.

The pairing of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr has been the preferred pairing in the middle of the park for Postecoglou, with Hojbjerg having to settle for substitute appearances by and large.

The Dane has been linked with the likes of Juventus (CalcioMercato), Fulham (90Min), and Ajax (SoccerNews) in recent weeks.

Of course, Spurs are in the midst of something of an injury crisis right now, with the likes of Sarr, James Maddison, and Rodrigo Bentancur all facing time on the sidelines.

Will Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg stay at Spurs?

That has opened the door for Hojberg again, and according to Romano, Spurs will be looking to keep hold of the 28-year-old come January.

He tweeted: “Despite links with Juventus and Ajax, Tottenham are currently not open to letting Pierre Emile Højbjerg leave on loan in January. Spurs already rejected loan proposal from Atléti on summer Deadline Day and stance remains the same — no loan.”

There is, however, no mention as to whether Spurs would allow the midfielder to leave if an offer for a permanent transfer was made.

I suspect what this means is, we need Hojbjerg to cover for injuries and will not just allow him to leave temporarily. However, if we were able to raise some funds by selling him, thus leading to a replacement being signed in January, there is a chance that deal would be considered.

Speaking to the press ahead of the big game between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, City boss Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Ange Postecoglou for the way his Spurs side are playing.

The appointment of Ange Postecoglou raised a few eyebrows in the summer, given the fact this was the Australian’s first role in one of Europe’s so-called big leagues. However, any fears that he would not be up to the task have been quickly put to bed.

Spurs started the season in incredible form, remaining unbeaten for the first ten games and topping the Premier League table. Sadly, a number of injuries and suspensions to key players has left the Lilywhites with three straight defeats now, and a drop to fifth in the table.

What better way to bounce back, then, than a visit to the home of the Premier League champions, who have won their last four games?

Postecoglou makes football a better place

Well, Pep Guardiola is clearly taking nothing for granted, and suggests Tottenham are making great strides under their new manager.

He told the press (via City Xtra): “He’s already there, in a short time, even the games they didn’t win lately, I’m impressed with how good the things are that they do and the chances they create. Aggressive in all departments. He came here and you recognise perfectly his team.

“Every team plays for the desire of the manager. What he’s done in Japan and Glasgow with Celtic and now. He makes football a better place, people like Ange. I enjoy a lot their approach, all the Spurs fans can admit the impact has been quick.”

I am amazed, truth be told, at how quickly the players have adapted to the ways of Ange Postecoglou. I am not concerned at all by the recent defeats, either. If we had a full strength squad we would be in a much better position, I’m sure.
