Tottenham Hotspur full-back Pedro Porro has opened up on the exit of Harry Kane earlier this summer, admitting that it was a ‘painful’ affair for everyone involved.

Kane joined Bayern Munich from Spurs in the summer in a protracted transfer saga that dominated the headlines in the summer transfer window. The deal was finalised for a reported fee in excess of €100 million ($110m) bringing the curtain down on a 19-year-old career for the forward in N17 (ESPN).

He departed Spurs as the club’s all-time top goalscorer and was just 47 shy of eclipsing Alan Shearer’s Premier League record, the academy graduate played 430 times for Spurs, scoring 278 goals and providing 64 assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Whilst everyone widely expected him to succeed at Bayern Munich, not even Kane would have envisioned the start he has had to life in Germany. In just 18 matches for Bayern this season, he has already scored 22 goals and provided seven assists (Transfermarkt).

Porro admits he wishes Kane had stayed at Spurs

Speaking to the Telegraph, Porro opened up on the exit of Harry Kane, admitting that it was a very painful saga in the summer.

He said: “Kane’s exit was painful for everyone because he was the heart and soul of the club. I would have liked to have enjoyed Kane more because we didn’t spend much time together. He is a special striker, used to scoring goals everywhere. He has not found it difficult to adapt to Bayern. He is undoubtedly one of the best in the world.”

“However, I think we at Tottenham have been able to overcome that absence quickly. Maybe there are more authoritative voices now. Son, for example, has taken the baton. Since Kane left, he’s stepped up, he’s taken responsibility and you can feel that inside and outside the dressing room. People usually underestimate him, maybe because he was always in the background, but he’s an out-and-out player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Whilst Kane’s exit a few days before the new season left a bitter taste in the mouth, all the parties involved have moved on pretty well. While Kane has had a great start to life in Germany, we have had a great start to life under Ange Postecoglou and have moved on quickly.

Martin Lipton revealed that Brentford striker Ivan Toney was desperate to join Tottenham Hotspur back when Manchester United were confident of signing Harry Kane.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Brentford striker for quite some time now. The Sun claimed recently that Chelsea were confident the North London club would make a move for the striker in January. The Blues also want to sign the 27-year-old.

The report added that Arsenal could compete with Chelsea and Tottenham for the player’s signature. Who comes out on top in this all-London battle remains to be seen.

Toney was handed a ban in relation to betting allegations and is expected to return in January. The 27-year-old is an integral part of how Brentford play but has been linked with an exit from the Bees for quite some time now.

Last season, the Brentford striker was on fire, scoring 21 goals and providing five assists in 35 appearances for Thomas Frank’s side (Transfermarkt). Toney has a contract that expires in 2025.

Toney was desperate to join Spurs in the past

Speaking on The Spurs Show Podcast, Martin Lipton has claimed Ivan Toney was desperate to join Spurs 18 months ago when the Red Devils wanted to sign Harry Kane.

“I know for a fact that 18 months ago, when United thought they were going to get Kane, Toney was desperate to go to Spurs, and his agent was pushing really hard”

Spurs Web Opinion

We still haven’t replaced Harry Kane who left us for Bayern Munich in the summer. While Spurs have performed well so far, a natural number nine is needed to be sustainable in the long run.

Ivan Toney perfectly fits the profile Ange Postecoglou looks for in his striker. That said, getting into a bidding war with Chelsea and Arsenal really doesn’t make sense. I feel we might be outpriced in the race for the Brentford man.

According to Football Insider, sources have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have accelerated their plans to sign a new midfielder in January following Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury.

Making his first start in nine months, Bentancur suffered an injury against Aston Villa after finding himself on the receiving end of a Matty Cash challenge. He hobbled off the pitch in the 30th minute.

Journalist Sami Mokbel on X revealed that the Uruguayan midfielder is expected to miss out on at least two-and-a-half months of action. Bentancur had just returned from an ACL injury.

Pape Matar Sarr also missed out on the last two games with an injury. Whilst Yves Bissouma has returned from suspension, it leaves Ange Postecoglou short of options to choose from in midfield.

In their 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, Ange Postecoglou decided to deploy Giovani Lo Celso in a deeper midfield role. The Argentine had a good game and was handed a second straight start against Man City, scoring in both of those matches.

Spurs accelerate plans to sign a midfielder in January

The report has claimed that Tottenham could accelerate their plans to sign a midfielder in January, in the aftermath of the injury to Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan is expected to be out until at least February.

It must also be remembered that Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma will leave for the AFCON early next year. Thus, signing a new midfielder becomes a necessity.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s a shame that Bentancur is injured yet again. The poor guy just can’t catch a break. When fit, he is one of the best midfielders at Postecoglou’s disposal.

Taking into picture the AFCON situation, Spurs must look to sign a midfielder in January but they should also look to sign the right player. Signing someone for the sake of it doesn’t make sense. Let’s also hope Bentancur can recover from injury soon and help us in the business end of the season.

According to Football Insider, sources have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will join Brentford in the race for 20-year-old PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko.

Spurs have been hit by quite an injury crisis of late, especially in the wide positions. Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon are all set to be out for extended periods.

This, coupled with injuries and suspensions to key players in other areas of the field has led to Tottenham losing three games on the bounce, followed by a draw away to Man City.

Come January, Spurs might be looking to bolster their roster with a new winger and this is where Bakayoko comes in. Sky Sports revealed a couple of days ago that Tottenham were interested in the PSV Eindhoven wide-man but Brentford were also circling.

With four goals and 12 assists in 23 games this season, the Belgian youngster has made quite the impression (Transfermarkt). Predominantly a right winger who loves to cut inside onto his left foot, Bakayoko can also do a decent job on the other side.

Spurs have been following Bakayoko for quite some time now. Back in August, the Sun’s Alan Nixon revealed on his Patreon that Tottenham had sent scouts to the Ibrox to watch the 20-year-old in action in the Champions League qualifier against Rangers.

Bakayoko finds himself on Tottenham’s shortlist

Along with Samuel Iling-Junior of Juventus, Bakayoko finds himself on Tottenham’s January shortlist, as they look to reinforce their depth in the attacking areas.

The pacy winger has already made his senior Belgium debut. He has since gone on to represent his nation nine times and has scored one goal. Despite being just 20, he is certainly not short of experience.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Ange Postecoglou favours Samuel Iling-Junior more than Bakayoko at the moment but things could change when the clubs engage in negotiations. The former also helps us fulfil the homegrown quota requirements.

Bakayoko is an interesting option and can be considered should a move for Iling-Junior prove to be infeasible. The 20-year-old has immense potential but we would be better off going for the Juventus man at the moment.

Harry Kane has opened up on his decision to leave Tottenham Hotspur and join Bayern Munich in the summer, calling it a mad experience.

Spurs’s all-time record goalscorer leaving the club in the summer was a bitter pill to swallow. After all, Kane had been at the North London club for 19 long years and nobody wanted to see the day of his exit finally arrive.

Kane played 430 times for Spurs, scoring 278 goals and providing 64 assists (Transfermarkt). When his transfer to Bayern Munich was announced, the Englishman was just 47 goals away from eclipsing Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record.

Since joining the German giants, Kane has set the Bundesliga alight with his goalscoring performances. In just 18 matches for Bayern this season, he has scored 22 goals and provided seven assists (Transfermarkt)

Spurs have had an impressive start to the season as well. They were unbeaten in the first 10 Premier League games before losing three on the bounce. They find themselves just six points off the top of the table after that draw with Man City at the weekend.

Kane opens up on ‘mad’ Bayern Munich transfer

In an interview with FourFourTwo, Harry Kane has opened up on his decision to move to Bayern Munich from Spurs in the summer.

He said: “It was a bit of a mad experience, to be honest. I didn’t really know what to expect… I was stepping out of my comfort zone.

“Last season, all I focused on was Spurs and trying to help the club finish as high as possible in the table. Once the season finished, I spoke to Spurs and explained that I felt it was time to move on and push myself as far as possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even the most ardent of Spurs fans would have not been optimistic about this season following Kane’s departure. Ange Postecoglou has really managed to turn the situation around though with his astute management.

Despite the three losses, we find ourselves in a great position this season. A win against Manchester City this weekend will give us a lot of confidence and let’s hope we can get the better of Pep Guardiola’s team.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Leeds United are very happy with the progress of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Joe Rodon and could look to sign him on a permanent basis in January.

Rodon has hardly put a foot wrong since his move to the Yorkshire club in the summer. He has established himself as one of Daniel Farke’s key players as Leeds look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking following their relegation last season.

Farke has had plenty of praise for the Welshman, who has formed a formidable partnership with Pascal Struijk. Speaking to Yorkshire Evening Post last month, the manager said that Rodon has been ‘brilliant’ since signing for the club.

Understandably, talks of a permanent deal to Leeds have started surfacing. TEAMtalk claimed last month that Spurs could ask for around £20m to part ways with him on a permanent basis.

Former Spurs and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson also gave a potential move the seal of approval when he admitted the Championship club should look to negotiate a permanent deal for Rodon in January rather than waiting until next summer (MOT Leeds News).

Joe Rodon could move to Leeds on permanent deal

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Gold believes that Rodon now sees his future away from North London.

“I think for Joe Rodon, if I’m Joe Rodon I wouldn’t even want to go back to Spurs anyway. He’s been smashing it at Leeds and I’ve no doubt they want to keep him.”

“I wouldn’t be shocked in January if they tried to set up a deal to sign him permanently whether that’s at the end of the season or something, he’s just been phenomenal for them.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t see Joe Rodon having a future at Spurs, regardless of how he performs for Leeds this season. Tottenham would be happy to move him on for the right fee.

Rodon has been exceptional for Leeds so far and will need to keep up his levels to convince the club to sign him permanently. If Leeds can secure a return to the Premier League, it would be likely they would look to seal the transfer in the summer.

Marcus Buckland has revealed that people have told him Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso can be moody at times behind the scenes.

Following the injuries to James Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr, as well as a suspension for Yves Bissouma, Ange Postecoglou gave Lo Celso a rare start in the game against Aston Villa in a deeper role alongside Rodrigo Bentancur. Needless to say, the Argentinian took his chance.

After the game, teammate Dejan Kulusevski singled out Giovani Lo Celso for the goal-scoring performance he delivered against Aston Villa, backing the midfielder to have an important role for Tottenham over the coming weeks (Football.London).

Kulusevski turned out to be right, as the Argentine score once more against Manchester City at the weekend to make the score 2-2.

Lo Celso has been linked with an exit from the North London club for quite some time now, with the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (as relayed by Sport Witness) revealing that he was the ‘number one’ target for Barcelona in January following Gavi’s injury.

El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez Haya also confirmed the Spanish club’s interest in the Spurs midfielder but revealed that the chances of a move materializing in January are slim.

Buckland says Lo Celso can be quite moody at times

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Marcus Buckland has had his say on Lo Celso’s game time at the club and also revealed that he could be quite moody at times.

“I was reading some quotes from an Argentine journalist who says that Lionel Messi is a massive fan of Lo Celso, and he could’ve played a huge role in Argentina’s triumphant World Cup anyway.”

“Let’s say Lo Celso does play well for three or four games and then everyone else comes back. Is there room for him in Tottenham’s A-team when everyone is fit, if there isn’t that will only add to his perceived petulance which I sometimes hear about behind the scenes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Lo Celso’s admirable display against Villa in a much deeper role than he is used to must have provided optimism to Spurs fans. That said, he needs to be paired with a more physical presence like Bissouma, Sarr or Bentancur to cover for his flaws. His pairing with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg did not work.

Against Manchester City this weekend. we could see Lo Celso start in his preferred number 10 role. He is very creative and offers a lot on the ball. Irrespective of what the future holds for him, we must take advantage of his abilities to help us get through this injury-ridden phase.

Spurs legend Ledley King says nobody at Tottenham Hotspur saw Gareth Bale becoming as good as he did.

A one-club man who spent his entire life at Spurs, King would have seen the rise of many modern-day Spurs heroes like Gareth Bale. The former defender claims that it was the Welshman who hit the ‘highest level’ of all the talents at the club during his time.

Gareth Bale joined Spurs from Southampton in 2007 and was at the club until 2013. He played 236 games for Tottenham, scoring 71 goals and providing 51 assists (Transfermarkt).

It is worth keeping in mind that he played as a left-back in his formative years at the North London club. He also had a second spell at the club on a season-long loan at the very end of his career.

The recently-retired 34-year-old went on to have an even more successful career at Real Madrid, playing 258 times and scoring 106 goals and 67 assists (Transfermarkt). He left the Spanish giants in 2022 as a three-time La Liga winner and five-time Champions League winner.

Spurs seem to have this knack of nurturing unexpected talents and turning them into superstars. Former Spurs star Jermaine Jenas recently admitted in an interview on talkSPORT Drive with Andy Goldstein that he did not expect Harry Kane to have such a successful career when he first saw him during his younger days.

Ledley King did not see Bale’s rise to stardom coming

Speaking on the On The Judy Podcast, Ledley King revealed how Bale was when he first came to Tottenham and how his eventual rise to fame came as a surprise.

“Gareth was the player who reached the highest level of everyone for me. It’s crazy. Gareth was a quiet kid, and when you look at his career now it’s crazy. When he left Southampton for Tottenham he was a quiet kid. I don’t think anyone expected him to have the career he had.”

“What I did see was that he could be a great left-back. One of the best in the world as a left-back or a wing-back, but somehow, he turned into something different, and he played basically anywhere. He turned into a different animal, it was just crazy.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Without an iota of doubt, Bale in full flight was one of the best players of his generation and he is a Spurs legend in his own right. His time at Real Madrid will be remembered for all the right and wrong reasons.

Now retired from the game, Bale is a player who terrorized defences and we were lucky to have him for close to six seasons. As Ledley King says, not many people saw it coming and that’s what made it even more special than it already was.

Former Spurs footballer Aaron Lennon has revealed that Premier League rivals Liverpool showed interest in him, but he chose to sign for Tottenham.

Lennon was a fantastic servant for Spurs, arriving from Leeds United in 2005 and featuring 362 times for the North London club (Transfermarkt). His pace and dribbling ability made him stand out amongst his peers.

His career which undoubtedly peaked at Spurs went on a downward trajectory since his decision to join Everton in 2015. The 36-year-old had stints at Turkish club Kayserispor and English club Burnley before eventually calling it a day.

Former teammate Darren Bent told the talkSPORT Breakfast that he feels Lennon does not get the respect that he deserves, considering the longevity of his career.

During his time in N17, Lennon made the right wing his own, terrorising opposition left-backs. He was a traditional right-footed right winger who loved to keep the chalk on his boots, a rare commodity in today’s game.

Lennon reveals Liverpool wanted to sign him

Speaking to Stadium Astro as revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter), Aaron Lennon revealed that there was a lot of interest in him back in 2005 but joining Spurs was a no-brainer.

When asked, “Why Tottenham?”, here is what Lennon had to say about his decision.

“As I said, I remember being on a holiday with my brothers and I remember getting a phone call from my agent. I actually got a phone call from a news reporter first and they already told me you are going to Tottenham, and I was like, “Pardon!” and I am out thinking, “Is this a prank call?”.”

“We didn’t really get prank called in those days. I remember saying to my brother and then my agent had revealed to me saying, basically Leeds had agreed a fee to sell me without even coming to me. Obviously, then it’s about me agreeing personal terms and whether I want to go.”

“So I came back off the holiday, spoke to my agent, he said there were a few offers going around, there were a few interests. I think Liverpool was another who were interested at that time but we looked at the project and Tottenham were then signing a lot of the best young players and yeah, that was it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Aaron Lennon is undoubtedly one of the most underrated Spurs players of the modern era. He was an absolute menace on the right flank and would often give nightmares to some of the best left-backs in the country like Ashley Cole and Patrice Evra.

There aren’t many players like Lennon in the game right now and the concept of traditional wingers has almost gone out of the picture.

Sadly, the 36-year-old did not adapt his game with the tactical evolution and was unfortunately left behind. That doesn’t take anything away from his exploits in his prime though, and will always be celebrated by Spurs fans.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has opened up on his difficult start to life at Spurs and the struggles he faced to adapt to the new role under Ange Postecoglou.

Back in January of this year, Porro completed a switch from Sporting to Spurs on an initial loan deal which became a permanent move in the summer for a fee of €45m (£39.7m – Guardian).

Since joining the club, the 24-year-old Spaniard has made 29 appearances for Spurs, scoring three goals and providing seven assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt) and has cemented his place as Postecoglou’s first-choice right-back ahead of Emerson Royal.

However, not everything was plain sailing for Porro in the early months of his career in North London with former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood having been extremely critical of the defender in th wake of hs debut at Leicester, a game which they lost 4-1 (Daily Mail).

Porro has shown great determination to grow into his role in N17. This season, he has adapted well to the inverted full-back role that Postecoglou expects him to play and is showing a plenty of tactical flexibility.

Porro opens up on adaptation to new role

Speaking to the Telegraph, about his difficult start to life at Spurs, here is what Porro had to say about his difficult period.

“I remember the first few weeks I struggled with everything. On my debut I said to myself: ‘These guys are on a motorbike. Either I wake up or they’re going to eat me.’”

“I had to do more gym work. Before, I didn’t do anything in the afternoons, just preventive work, but when I arrived in England I had to do double sessions because the pace and intensity of the Premier League is diabolical.”

On playing in a new tactical system as an inverted full-back under Postecoglou, he added: “This tactical system is new in my career because I have never played inside. I feel very comfortable in this role although at first it took some getting used to in pre-season. Ange tried to advise me, to make me see how I had to position myself to receive the ball better on the inside.”

“It may seem easy but finding the spaces is not. And that also requires a high level of concentration because you can’t forget to defend. In the last two years of my career, I have improved especially in that defensive order. Before maybe I was a player who was mainly concerned with attacking, but now I have to do more things. And honestly I’m enjoying defending. Attacking is always more fun, but this other ability has given me confidence.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I will be the first one to admit that I was not very impressed by Porro’s debut for Spurs at the King Power Stadium. That said, he was coming to a new league and needed some time to adapt. The talent was always there.

Now, Porro has made the right-back role at Spurs his own. He was always comfortable going outside but is now adept at coming inside too. Postecoglou is making the perfect use of the Spaniard.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has praised Tottenham Hotspur loanee Djed Spence for his commitment in training following his return from injury.

Spence joined the Championship side on loan for the season earlier in the summer, along with fellow Spur Joe Rodon. While the latter has gone on to establish himself as a regular starter in Farke’s side, Spence has made just one appearance off the bench until now (Transfermarkt).

Following a disappointing first season in N17, Spence would have been hoping to rediscover his form at the Elland Road outfit. However, a ligament problem that he suffered back in September has kept him from featuring in a first-team fixture ever since.

Leeds manager Farke had revealed to Football.London a month in late October that Spence was in the final stages of his recovery and was expected to be back in action soon. Spence made the bench for the club’s 3-1 win over Swansea City and was again an unused sub for the 3-2 victory at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

He said: “Djed is also in the last stages of his rehab,” said Farke. “I hope both of them, Stuart [Dallas] and Djed can return back to team training pretty soon and then I guess Djed was also out for about eight weeks, so it’s not like the first day back in team training he’ll be available for the game, he also needs a bit of training, but I hope that’s pretty soon, in the next days.

Farke full of praise over Spence’s attitude

Fake said: Yorkshire Evening Post:”It was no gift, Djed since 11 or 12 days in training you could see him growing from training session to training session. After such a long injury he can’t be there with 100 per cent but we got the feeling he deserved already to be in the squad.”

“He was quite on it in training, I was quite impressed. We decided to have him as an option. If he works that hard, especially on his fitness level, each and every day to gain more and more rhythm he has good chances in the upcoming weeks to be involved with game time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is good news that Spence is fit and can finally start playing regularly for Leeds. Judging by how the summer went, it appears as though Ange Postecoglou does not think the young Englishman would suit his system; Spence might be putting himself in the shop window for the remainder of the season.

If Spence performs well and his asking price increases, that bodes very well for us. If Leeds get promoted back to the top-flight and Spence has a solid end to the campaign, hopefully, he can get the move he needs to get his career back on track.

Tottenham Hotspur will soon find out who they face in the third round of the FA Cup, with the draw set to take place today (Sunday, December 3, 2023).

Spurs, bracing for a high-stakes clash with Manchester City today, will have more than just the game on their minds. The looming draw adds an extra layer of tension. Ange Postecoglou will want to arrest Tottenham’s three-game losing streak in the league and return to winning ways.

Tottenham’s journey in this season’s Carabao Cup met an early and dramatic end, as they faced a surprising defeat at the hands of Fulham. In an exhilarating second-round match, the outcome hung in the balance until it was ultimately decided in a nail-biting penalty shootout.

Whilst the Premier League title is not technically out of reach, the FA Cup probably presents us with the most realistic opportunity for Spurs to get their hands on silverware this season.

Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup Third Round draw

Here’s all that you need to know about the upcoming draw for the Third Round of the FA Cup (via Tottenham’s official website):

When: The draw for the FA Cup will take place on Sunday, December 3 and will be telecasted at 12:55 pm GMT ahead of the clash between Eastleigh and Reading.

How to watch: The draw will be shown live on ITV during their build-up coverage of the tie between the League One teams.

Draw details: Tottenham have been assigned ball number 40 for the draw.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs desperately want to get the monkey off their back and with no European competition to disrupt our schedules, we can focus on trying to win the FA Cup.

In fact, considering the start that we have had, we can even compete for the Premier League title. Hopefully, we get an easy draw but we need to be prepared for whatever is thrown at us. More importantly, let’s get the win against Manchester City tomorrow.

Tottenham Hotspur take on defending Premier League champions Manchester City this weekend as they look to put the brakes on a three-game losing streak.

The game between Spurs and City is highly anticipated for many reasons. One of the most exciting ones though is the prospect of Pep Guardiola and Ange Postecoglou pitting their wits against each other in this high-octane clash.

Both managers have a lot in common. They are very particular about the way they want their teams to play. They are advocates of an attacking brand of football, irrespective of the situation of the game.

The main difference is that the Spanish tactician is already considered one of the best managers the league has ever seen while the Australian is still finding his feet.

Postecoglou has won the admiration of Spurs fans not only with his team’s style of play but also with his off-field charisma.

In an interview with TNT Sports following a victory against Bournemouth this season, the Australian displayed his cheeky humour. When asked about his team’s playing secrets, he quipped, ‘I’m just copying Pep, mate!’.

Postecoglou vs Guardiola: Head to Head

Considering the fact that the two tacticians haven’t managed in the same league at any given instance in their careers until now, the head-to-head games have been few and far. In fact, it has happened only once back in 2019.

During City’s pre-season Asia tour, they took on Yokohama F. Marinos which was managed by Postecoglou back then. The game may have ended 3-1 in the English club’s favour but the Japanese side managed to make an impression.

The official City website praised Yokohama’s attacking prowess, calling them an ‘excellent side’ whose commitment to playing open, attractive football was impressive. Even Guardiola claimed that they were the perfect side to face during pre-season as they were very quick and took a lot of risks.

Spurs Web Opinion

Now that they are managers in the same league, Sunday’s encounter could be the first of many clashes between the two astute tacticians. There is no doubt in my mind that Postecoglou can match Guardiola toe-to-toe in terms of planning.

Having lost the last three games, Spurs are desperate to get the win. Doing it against Guardiola’s City would be very impressive. Let’s hope we put in a performance that silences the Etihad this weekend.

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton, taking on All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Claudio Castagnoli, has predicted the result of the clash between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Ahead of this weekend’s games, Sutton feels Pep Guardiola’s side will get the better of Spurs.

City come into this clash comfortably placed second in the table. Spurs, on the other hand, sit fifth in the table, three points off the defending champions. Whilst that does not make for bad reading, it is the recent context that puts Tottenham under a bit of pressure.

Spurs have now lost three games on the bounce after being unbeaten in the league for 10 games. Whilst the Chelsea loss was marred by red cards, 2-1 losses against Wolves and Aston Villa saw them tumble down to fifth in the table.

This highly anticipated game will see two managers known for their desire to play an attacking brand of football pit their wits against each other.

The tacticians have faced off once before back in 2019 when Manchester City took on Yokohama F. Marinos which was managed by Postecoglou back then. The game ended 3-1 in the English side’s favour.

Chris Sutton expects an open game and a City win

Speaking to the BBC, Chris Sutton felt that the game between Tottenham and City would be open and there could be a few goals.

He said: “Not many teams go toe to toe with City at Etihad Stadium, so it is going to be very interesting to see what sort of line-up Spurs go with. Full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal were the centre-back pairing against Villa, with Eric Dier left on the bench.

“Whoever gets the nod this time will have to be the best players in the team, because they get left exposed so much. I am expecting another really open game and Tottenham will create chances, like they did last weekend against Villa. If they had taken them, they would have been out of sight by half-time.

“City will get loads of opportunities too, though – and they are just ruthless. That’s why I’m saying there are going to be a few goals, it’s just that Pep Guardiola’s side will get most of them.”

Sutton’s prediction: 4-2 Manchester City

Claudio’s prediction: 3-1 Manchester City

Spurs Web Opinion

The odds are firmly stacked against Spurs ahead of the Manchester City clash. However, it is the wounded tiger which is usually very dangerous.

Ange Postecoglou is a winner, and he will be very disappointed about registering three losses on a trot. He has had a week to prepare with his team whilst City were busy playing in Europe. The additional rest could perhaps give us an edge in what is expected to be a very open, fast-paced game.

The Daily Mail has revealed that talented Sporting CP winger Marcus Edwards was involved in a car crash on the outskirts of Lisbon.

The report assured that neither the footballer nor the driver of the other vehicle were hurt in this incident. Despite escaping from any notable injury, Edwards is said to have been shaken, with his car flipped 90 degrees.

Once a part of Spurs’ academy, Edwards left in 2019 to join Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal. Two and a half years later, he went on to sign for Sporting Lisbon.

Edwards has played 83 times for Sporting CP, scoring 18 goals and providing 21 assists (Transfermarkt).

His form saw him being linked with a move back to Spurs earlier this month when the print edition of O Jogo (as relayed by Sport Witness) revealed that although the Lilywhites have a 35 per cent sell-on clause on Edwards, the Portuguese club want to generate €80m (£70m) from his sale.

In fact, when Tottenham signed Pedro Porro from the same club back in January, Marcus Edwards was instrumental in making that deal happen, albeit inadvertently.

After talks almost collapsed over transaction fees, Spurs agreed to waive a portion of the sell-on fee owed to them in the event of Edwards being sold (Evening Standard).

Marcus Edwards is shaken but escaped injury

Luckily, Edwards and the other driver escaped without any major injuries. Club representatives were at the scene of the accident to help the 24-year-old.

The former Spurs academy graduate was apparently on his way to training ahead of his side’s Europa League clash against Atalanta.

Spurs Web Opinion

While accidents are commonplace on the road, the only takeaway from this is the fact that thankfully, neither Marcus nor the other party involved suffered any major injuries.

Damages to the car can be dealt with. It remains to be seen if Ruben Amorim makes Edwards play so soon, in the aftermath of the accident.

With respect to Spurs’ interest in the player, Sporting made life so difficult for us during the Pedro Porro deal, changing details at the last minute. We can expect nothing different from them if we try to sign Edwards and we must be prepared for that.

Kieran Gibbs believes Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou deserves a ‘lot of praise’ this season.

Spurs had an impressive start to the season, winning eight out of their first 10 games. However, they have gone on to lose their next three games amidst something of an injury crisis in N17.

Tottenham appointed Ange Postecoglou as the club’s new manager this summer and it has proven to be a wise decision indeed. The Australian already has the club playing an attractive brand of football while also getting the desired results more often than not.

Spurs finished eighth in the league last year, failing to qualify for Europe. In stark contrast, they are just four points off the top so far this season and look capable of challenging for the Champions League places.

Kieran Gibbs says Postecoglou deserves a lot of credit

Speaking to ESPN, Kieran Gibbs says he has been very impressed by what Postecoglou has done with Spurs and believes they can be a ‘bogey team’ to face for other clubs this season.

He said: “As much as it pains me to say it, I’ve actually been really impressed with Spurs, really impressed. To lose Harry Kane and to perform how they have so far this season is super impressive. You have to give him credit.

“Spurs are a team that are just going to cause the other top teams challenging for the title, problems. They make the league more exciting this year, a bit like a Newcastle. They’re going to be a bogey team for the teams that are challenging for the title.

“But yeah, I’m impressed. They’re playing good football. We don’t associate Tottenham with that style of football at all. He’s been a breath of fresh air since coming in and credit to him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not often that you see a former Arsenal footballer praise Tottenham so much. It just shows how well Ange Postecoglou has managed this team until now.

One thing that I would like to differ on though is that under Postecoglou, Spurs are no longer interested in being just a ‘bogey team’. We want to challenge for trophies and win.

Despite the recent setback, we are still in a great position in the league. Let’s hope we turn it around against Manchester City this weekend.

According to 90min, sources have confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on talented teenage Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton.

Wharton caught the eye with his performances for the Championship club last season, and the teenager has carried on from where he left off, playing 17 times across all competitions this season and providing one assist (Transfermarkt). However, stats always don’t paint the whole story.

At such a young age, Wharton has been deployed in multiple positions, playing as a six, eight and ten for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side. Understandably, he has courted a lot of interest.

TEAMtalk revealed in September that Spurs joined Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for the talented youngster. They also added that Newcastle United, Brighton and Wolves were in the mix for his signature last summer.

In fact, Spurs seem to have been interested in this player for quite some time now. The Daily Mail revealed back in May that Arsenal and Tottenham had sent scouts to watch him in action.

Adam Wharton is garnering a lot of interest

90min have claimed that Tottenham are closely keeping an eye out on the teenage midfielder, who is widely considered one of the biggest talents in the Championship at the moment.

However, the report adds that Spurs are not alone in their interest. Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United could all challenge the North London club for Wharton’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

We signed Ashley Phillips from Blackburn in the summer and the contacts established then could help us gain an advantage in the race for Adam Wharton.

With so much interest in the teenage midfielder, signing him is not going to be easy. We need to look to use our past relationship with his club to try and tilt the scales in our favour.

Jamie O’Hara has revealed that he is absolutely fuming at Aston Villa defender Matty Cash for his tackle on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.

Spurs and Villa faced off in the Premier League last weekend in what was a closely contested game. Unfortunately for Ange Postecoglou and his players, Unai Emery’s side managed to win 2-1, handing Tottenham their third successive defeat in the league.

Bentancur was making his first start in around nine months against Villa. Having just recovered from an ACL injury that he suffered back in February, the 26-year-old was on the receiving end of a horrendous challenge by Matty Cash.

Journalist Sami Mokbel revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Bentancur is expected to miss out on 2.5 months of action following his latest injury. A report from Football. London also added that the Spurs midfielder had torn the ligament in his ankle.

Spurs have had a torrid time with injuries and suspensions this season. After an unbeaten start in the league, Tottenham have tumbled down to fifth following these losses.

Jamie O’ Hara is not happy with Matty Cash

Former Spurs player  Jamie O’Hara revealed on X that he was understandably not happy about the tackle on Bentancur and urged the Spurs players to remember the challenge.

“2.5 months for Bentancur injury absolutely gutted he looked decent, Fuming about Cash next time we play Villa let’s make sure the boys remember.”

Spurs Web Opinion

In the heat of the game, tackles like the one from Matty Cash happen. The Polish international surely would not have intended to hurt Bentancur. While O’Hara’s anger is justified, it does not make sense to keep this in our minds and give it back the next time we face Villa.

It’s an absolute shame that Bentancur is going to be out for the next couple of months, if not more. Understandably, he would be devastated. Spurs now have a momentous task of stopping the slide and resurrecting the season, and they will have to do it without Bentancur. Let’s just hope our injury curse ends with this.

Tottenham Hotspur have learned which matches Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur may miss out on after his latest injury.

Making his first start in close to nine months against Aston Villa last weekend, Bentancur hardly lasted 30 minutes after a reckless Matty Cash challenge saw him hobble off the pitch in utter disappointment.

After undergoing scans on his injured ankle, it was first relayed by journalist Sami Mokbel on X that the Uruguayan midfielder was expected to miss out on at least 2.5 months of action with his latest injury.

A report from Football. London later added that Bentancur had torn the ligament on his ankle and that he would be out until at least February, at the earliest.

Bentancur had just returned a few weeks ago after recovering from an ACL injury that he suffered against Leicester City back in February. Just as he was finding his way back, this latest setback must be devastating for the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

If everything goes according to plan, we could expect Bentancur to return to action against Crystal Palace on March 2, 2024. It’s an absolute shame that he is out injured again.

Both Bentancur and Tottenham just can’t seem to catch a break with injuries. These incessant issues are threatening to derail Spurs’ impressive start to the season. Without Bentancur, the challenge only gets harder. Let’s hope the Uruguayan comes back in good shape and helps us in the latter stages of the season.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to accelerate a move to land Ange Postecoglou’s dream signing, Samuel Iling-Junior.

Calciomercato reported that Juventus would be willing to sell Tottenham target Samuel Iling-Junior for €20m (£17.4m) in January and many outlets have been picking up on this news since.

Juve would reportedly be open to cashing in on the England Under-21 international in January since his contract only runs until 2025 (Football Insider). The player wants to leave the Italian giants in search of regular playing time (Il Bianconero).

Italian outlet Calciomercato recently claimed that Spurs sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action for England U-21s in their win against Northern Ireland.

The young English winger joined Juventus in 2020 from the Chelsea youth setup but has only established himself as a fringe player so far.

He has made 22 appearances for the first team, scoring one goal and providing three assists in 671 minutes of football (Transfermarkt).

Spurs to accelerate move for Samuel Iling-Junior

According to the report by Football Insider, Tottenham are set to accelerate a move for the Juventus winger, who is said to be Ange Postecoglou’s dream signing.

The Australian manager wants a versatile attacker who can play on both wings and also fill in centrally if required. Postecoglou apparently believes that Iling-Junior fits the bill.

Spurs Web Opinion

Iling-Junior to Tottenham is gaining a lot of momentum but I am very doubtful the player will choose the North London club if he is looking for regular playing time.

Postecoglou might look to try and convince the player to come here. A return to England seems inevitable for Iling-Junior. He would be a good signing for Spurs but I’d still reserve my expectations for this signing to happen.
